Implementing curriculum in schools
  • Schools and classrooms need to be safe, welcoming spaces for everyone to feel they belong.

  • Motivational theory tells us ākonga need to feel connected, competent, and have some agency.

  • We know our education system has historically not done well for ākonga Māori and we need to actively plan to make it better.

The resources linked below are for some of those vital aspects that work alongside curriculum.

Many of these were addressed in the 2023 version of Te Mātaiaho, which you'll find linked below also.

This first doc shows an example curriculum overview, placing the NZ curriculum and 'the science of learning' as part of a bigger picture.

Feel free to copy and adapt/improve this, put your school name and logo on it and use it to frame your school curriculum expectations for kaiako.
